Fertilizer may either be liquid or dry. A liquid fertilizer needs to be diluted with water, while a dry fertilizer is usually ready for use right out of the bag. Substrates are also classified as dry products.

This only applies to substrates. Some substrates contain nutrients, while others may not. The amount of nutrients in substrates varies, leading to different pre-fertilization periods. Note that you’ll have to add fertilizer after pre-fertilization runs out (or even before, if using an organic substrate).

The source of plant nutrients can be either organic or mineral. An organic source is of plant-, animal or even geological origin, while a mineral source is usually man-made. As a rule of thumb an organic fertilizer gets you the best taste, while a mineral fertilizer leads to greater yields. All our products that contain only organic components are Control Union (CU) certified.

There are two major categories of plant nutrients. A substrate is the medium in which you grow. This usually consists of peat or coco, but can also be inert (for instance clay). Fertilizers are the (extra) nutrients you add to this substrate and can be either liquid or dry. Some products do not fall into either category since their primary function is not the growth or the flower development of your plant. Instead, they may focus on things like soil improvement or pH control.
